The length of Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) for motorcycles, motorcycle scooters and mopeds could take up to at least 5 hours If not longer depending on each individuals needs and the individual’s ability to meet the required standards.

During the CBT, a trainee motorcyclist will undergo five elements of training, which include an introduction to the motorbike, on-site training, on-site riding, on-road training, and on-road riding. The aim of the training is to ensure that the trainee understands the basic skills and knowledge required to ride a motorbike safely on the road. Once the trainee has successfully completed the CBT, they will receive a certificate of completion, which will allow them to ride a motorcycle on the road with L-plates for up to two years, after which they will need to pass their full motorcycle test or retake the CBT again to carry on riding.
